Abstract of the Lecture
The twenty-first century will continue to be marked by advances in computing and communication hardware and software – evident by the advances in wireless broadband solutions, technology-based pedagogy, and user-friendly integrated software systems. These advances are impacting the education processes namely the modalities and mechanisms for e-learning and the emergence of virtualization of academic campuses and delivery of academic programs in the advanced countries. These technologies are providing avenues for anywhere-anytime accessibility to affordable, technology-enabled resources for academic training by both rural and urban citizenry. This lecture focuses on the key technological and pragmatic methodologies for designing and implementing IT infrastructure, and an outline of a pedagogical approach, for delivering e-learning content. It is posited that the various stakeholders: academia, government and industry/corporate must collaborate to establish such virtual education processes, particularly in Africa, where the costs ought to be shared.
