BSc (Hons) Computing with Education |
Programme Philosophy and Objectives
Information and Communications technology (ICT) is now playing a unique and increasingly important role in the National Curriculum for Schools. ICT will promote learning in key skills and across the curriculum in all of the other subjects. In the near future it will become a national policy to connect all schools to the internet and the use of email and school websites will become commonplace. It’s clear that in Ghana new technologies are making new requirements on the teaching force and there is a shortage of properly trained curriculum leaders for ICT, particularly in primary and secondary schools. Such ICT specialists are required not only as excellent classroom practitioners, but also to provide curriculum support, staff training and resource management. The Regent-Ghana BSc (Hons) Computing with Education programme has therefore been designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in the knowledge and skills essential for them to become successful ICT leaders in a primary and secondary schools.
This innovative degree is a four year full time course which aims to equip the student with the competence to use the computer to teach as well as develop computer-assisted instructional software. The courses are supported by a detailed exploration of the place and use of Information Technology in primary and secondary schools. On completion, graduates are expected to be able to put their skills, knowledge and understanding into practice. The programme would enable students to teach and use Information Communication Technology applications in a variety of educational contacts. It would also help them to understand the nature and role of Information Communication Technology lessons to appreciate the school’s management and co-ordination of ICT and to collaborate with other teachers using ICT to know the range and requirements of ICT courses in elementary and secondary schools. The course would indeed give the student a range of highly desired skills in school administration information handling, multi-media presentation and analytical and problem solving techniques, among others. |
