The first batch of students was admitted into Mckweon Society on January 17, 2005, that is, at the beginning of the 2005-2006 academic year. This Society was named ‘Mckweon’ in recognition of the Pentecostal roots of the Rev Dr E. Kingsley Larbi, the founder of Regent University College of Science and Technology and his ground-breaking research on the life and work of Mckweon, the founder of the Church of Pentecost.
The society comprises the Mckweon Senior Common Room made up of the staff members in the Society and the Mckweon Junior Common Room made up of the student members of the Society.
The Society Council, whose members are Fellows of the Society directs the affairs of the Society. The Tutorial Board and the Senior Common Room Committee assist the Society Council. The Society Council consists of ten members, including the Warden and the Senior Tutor who are ex-officio members. The day-to-day administration of the Society is carried out by the Warden assisted by the Senior Tutor who is in charge of students’ academic affairs. The Senior Tutor is assisted by Tutors who academic advisors. An elected Committee, under the Chair of the Senior Common Room (SCR), manages the affairs of the SCR. There is also a Bursar.
The student elected government is headed by a student leader (JCR Chair) who directs the affairs of the students. Once in a year, the Warden has to convene a meeting of the Fellows to receive his annual report. It is the tradition of the Society to accord founders, pioneers, inventors and innovators Honorary Fellowship of the Society.
Stott
The Society is named after the famous Dr John Stott, a renowned British evangelical theologian whose ministry sponsored the doctoral studies of both President Larbi founder of the Regent-Ghana and his close associate, Provost Owiredu. Every year, 17th January, the first day of the opening of the Regent University College of Science and Technology, the Society celebrates the contribution of John Stott toward the birth of the ‘Regent Dream’.
The society comprises the Stott Senior Common Room made up of the staff members in the Society and the Stott Junior Common Room made up of the student members of the Society.
The Society has its own statutes governing the election of officers and the administration of its affairs. The Society Council, which is the governing body of Society, is responsible to the body of Fellows who form the Senate. Persons of academic distinction outside the University may be elected as Honorary Fellows at a General Meeting of Fellows.
